New name, same old Kat and dog
Kat Eschner's newsletter about animal-human relationships begins a fresh chapter
Woof woof, everybody.
When I launched CREATURE FEATURE in October 2018, I didn’t know what it was going to become. I had a subject, and a lot to say about it, but everything else about this newsletter has developed over time. In a way, it’s one big essay, one big attempt. It’s a bit messy, and I want it to stay that way, because the subject matter I’m tackling–human-animal *relationships* is also pretty messy.
I originally chose the name CREATURE FEATURE because I thought I’d be writing about movies and animals: it turns out that I had more to say. I wrote about lamps, lobsters, labradoodles, cultured meat, feral hogs and a lot more. I need a name that makes space for all those things.
Thank you all for your readership and your patience as this newsletter grows and changes. Expect more musings, more animals, more reporting this year, under a new name which will also be that of my upcoming podcast: The Quick Fox. I’m sad to be leaving the CREATURE FEATURE nameplate, but sic transit gloria mundi.
I picked the new name because of, well, because of Zelda. She’s my cookiefeet, my quick fox, my guiding light in the world of animal-human relationships. She’s about five feet away at the moment, curled up into a sleeping donut. It felt right that the name would be a homage to her.
You can expect more updates (and a real issue) in the days to come. For the moment, welcome to The Quick Fox.
Yours,
Kat
